1st Punch

[Action: Where the rivers meet in the village]

[Sakura's arrival in Luceti comes with a short, bitten-off yell of surprise and a splash as she drops into the icy water. The white-clad figure vanishes underwater, then reappears, struggling, fighting to surface long enough to catch her breath. It's shockingly cold, iced over in places -- although thankfully not where she fell -- and even if she knows nothing else yet, she knows she must get out of the water.]

[Flailing, gasping, reeling in shock from the sudden cold, it's extremely difficult for her to get atop the water as a ninja would normally go -- but she's too cold to swim properly, she knows that all too well, and with the ice besides, she has no other choice.]

[She's proud of her own strength and control, and she makes herself display it now, pushing up out of the water and working her way until she is balanced by chakra on the surface.]

[Now, though, she's exposed to the bitter air, soaking wet, with nothing but a thin, backless white dress to cover her. And she's freezing.]

[She makes her way toward the shore, where there's a journal waiting for her. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a warm blanket or anything like one. Just the journal, with her name on it, and a biting chill to the air.]

[Sakura's hair is is still damp when her face appears on the journals. She's managed to get dry and warmed up -- and much more warmly dressed than when she arrived -- but she looks disoriented, worried, and worn.]

I don't know what this place is, where it is, why it is. I'm not sure I even want to speculate. But if there's anyone... familiar out there, anyone who knows me -- I'm here.

[He gives a nod.]

I am grateful for that. And I wish you luck in the research! First, we must clothe ourselves...

[He grabs a green leotard and holds it up to himself.]

Hm, this may be close enough...

[... They seriously keep a stock of those.]

[Really? Do they have to?]

[Sakura just sighs and looks for something decent enough for her. And she can't help uttering a small sound of surprise as she does indeed find her own clothes here -- both her regular clothes and a joint army uniform as she was taken in.]

They do have them...

Aha... [Bit sheepish. What were you told, woman. 8|]

Worry about yourself first. If you have time after all that, fine. I'll be out in two days if not, and we can talk then.

[Maybe she can use that two days to brace herself for questions about the war. At least Ino's not from that far along -- one less person to ask her how it's going. But she knows Shikamaru remembers it...]

I'll be fine.

[Anyone else would have serious worries after that dunking, but she can take care of herself.]

Ino said she treated you. I'm sure she did well.

Actually, the clothing shop ough to have all your clothes waiting to get scooped up, not to mention at least a few jackets.

[In fact, he'll slowly start in that direction-- though only a few steps, so not to completely ditch her or anything.]

Yeah, her and Law. [And he grins.] Say what you will about Luceti, there are some great medics here. I've been in good hands.

You, on the other hand, should go dry off before you end up joining me here. This place's winters are ten shades different from what we're used to in Konoha.

Well, that's good. The sooner you accept you're here, the sooner you can piece your life back together before you left. Well, that isn't that hard to do. Nothing ever significantly changes here, but a lot of people might remember you and hopefully look fondly upon you.

[ She's trying to ease Sakura into this process but it might come off as creepy instead. ]

I noticed.

[Her voice is dry on that note; she couldn't help but notice.]

It's all right, I've gotten indoors and warm. And I'll make sure I don't take ill from it. [The day she can't take care of boosting her own immune system against a simple chill is the day she'll give up and become a housewife.]

[It's all right, she'll go right along with him. He did offer himself as her guide, after all.]

If they could get all my clothes and bring them here, you'd think they could drop me off with them!

[Instead of this very thin and very revealing (at least when wet) white thing.]

[Strangers remembering and looking fondly on her? That sounds... well, kind of strange, really. Sakura's not sure how she feels about the whole thing. But it's better than being remembered poorly, at least? She supposes.]

I'm sure I didn't get into anything... remarkable, before. [If she was still herself, anyway.]

[The moment Sakura's arms connected and wrapped themselves around her, Ino felt her body stiffening and then just letting go. Riku offered comfort that day after Shikamaru was settled in the clinic but of course, Sakura's is still different.]

I didn't do everything and I wish I did. [Her voice is soft as she remembers their past ordeal.]

The wounds were very deep... and messy. With the limit this place puts on us, I ran out of chakra. I managed to stop the bleeding, though, patch up torn organs, long enough for Neji and I to bring him to the clinic.

[Another long pause.] Shikamaru was also smart enough to bandage himself up before the fight so the bleeding wasn't that profuse than I expected. But still...

[It hurts her pride that she wasn't able to fully heal him and the fear that she might be too late again scares her so much.]

I thought... [I thought I'd lose him.]

There's only so much you can do with limited chakra.

[Doesn't she know it. She wants to ask about that phrase -- the limits this place puts on us -- but this isn't the time, not yet. Later.]

You kept him alive and got him into treatment. That's the important part. And he was prepared... [It's Shikamaru. Foresight is his specialty. Plotting out all the potentials...]

You know as well as I do -- if your patient survives in good shape, then you succeeded. Might-have-beens are only useful if they let you plan better for the future.

[The lesson Tsunade drummed into her head back at home, for all it's dreadfully hard to hold onto when you're treating someone you care about.]

[She sighs, washing away all doubt and fear she's feeling. Sakura's right and the reminder she gave her assures her. The words are easier said than done, though, and she knows this too well. But hearing them gives some sort of comfort.]

That's right. I need to always remember that. [A snort.] Hard to do so when you're in that situation, though.

[The drawback of being a medic - seeing people close to you suffer. Ino shakes her head at the thought, though.] --Anyway, enough depressing stuff. Want a little tour of this place?

[He looks over reassuringly.]

Indeed. And they look no worse for the wear!

[He nods, glad to hear it.]

Who else have you already spoken to?

[Temari's lucky - or observant, she'll go with observant - enough to catch movement (and a flash of pink) before Sakura speaks. She turns in time to see the greeting and raises a hand to return it, then jerks her thumb toward the kitchen.]

Now if they could have just left them on me...

[Which leads her thoughts in all kinds of unhappy directions -- mostly along the lines of being undressed, operated on, and then redressed by strangers, all without her knowledge. Ugh.]

Well, I have them, and there are some cloaks and warm things here... [Since most of her own clothing is chosen for Konoha's very pleasant climate.]

[It's something of a brusque response, but Sakura doesn't know Temari well enough to know whether it's unusual or not, so she nods and heads to the kitchen as indicated.]

I'm not sure if it's right to say I'm glad to see you or not. Familiar faces, but...

[They both know it all too well, that pain -- Sakura even better than Ino now, with the war weighing on her shoulders. But she says nothing of it, just smiles.]

That sounds about right! Now that I'm warm and dry, I may even enjoy it.

[Temari leans against the counter, watching Sakura carefully.]

But it means you're here. Don't worry about it. It's not that bad.

I've talked to Lee, Temari, and Tenten -- oh, and a couple people who aren't from home.

[Speaking of which...]

By the way. That Masaomi guy...

[Her tone says all that's left. What a creeper!]

Isn't it?

[Sakura looks toward Temari, then shakes her head.]

Being kidnapped from home, having my body altered without my knowledge, being trapped here...

[Temari nods. Yeah, she knows. Her hand drifts to her neck, where she taps the back of it.] There's a barcode too. Right there.

[It's the cherry on the sundae, and Sakura fights the urge to slam a fist into whatever surface is closest. She doesn't need to be doing property damage just yet, as much as it would let out some of her feelings.]

Barcodes. Wings. Dumping me in a frozen river! What the hell is this place?

[Temari's hand drops and she shrugs.] Not everyone gets dumped in a river. [Though she did get dumped in a lake once.]
